It was a rare moment of irritation for Pope Francis during an event in Michoacan, Mexico, on Feb. 16, when he was knocked off balance by an overly enthusiastic crowd member
So. This is what it looks like when you upset Pope Francis, apparently.
The video footage is from the pontiff’s visit to Mexico. In it, you can see Francis reacting as he’s pulled down onto a young person in a wheelchair, according to Reuters.
The pope appears visibly agitated during the interaction — and he reportedly chided the person (or people) responsible.
The Associated Press reported that this happened when “overly eager people tugged on his sleeve from behind a barrier.” CNN reported that someone in the crowd “apparently grabbed him by the hand and wouldn’t let go.”
After aides and members of his security detail helped the pope regain his balance, Francis “raised his voice and said twice in Spanish: ‘Don’t be selfish!’ ” according to Reuters.
The encounter occurred Tuesday while the otherwise unflappable pope was greeting a crowd in Morelia.
